9 foot Pro Ring low profile coax cable with 1/2" hole
This is the standard grade coax included with many kits, mounts and packages. It has average shielding and an average thickness exterior with the cable diameter measuring about 0.20".
RG8X is like standard coax on steroids. It has a stranded center, which makes it less likely than a solid center (found on cheaper coax) to snap when bent and pinched. It usually also has beefier insulation, and is just thicker in general measuring in at around a 1/4" diameter.
If you'll be using your coax in heavy-duty conditions and want something that's more likely to hold up to abuse, we recommend going with RG8X coax.
If you're running dual antennas, you must use RG-59 coax which is built to connect two antennas to a single radio. Any other type of coax won't work with your dual antenna setup. Some people will purchase regular coax cable and try to use a T-connector to install everything. While everything will wire up properly, your dual antenna system simply won't work.
All CB coax ends in one of three possible ways:
The PL-259 connect is most popular, and connects to the long, barrel style studs you see on many mounts. It's very easy to install. It's also the same type of connection that all coax cables use to connect to the radio - so every CB coax cable has at least one PL-259 connection. Many have PL-259 on both ends, with the second PL-259 being used to connect to the mount (see picture below).
Ring and terminal style coax are the other two connections coax connections. Both are ideal when a low profile connection is desired. The ring connection's all plastic construction is extremely weather and rust resistant, while the terminal connection is the only way to wire up certain mounts (like ball mounts or side mounts).
Both ring and terminal style connections are compatible with lug style mounts/studs (see picture below).
If your CB installation is done perfectly, it shouldn't really matter what length coax you use. But we've found that in the event a less-than-perfect antenna location is chosen, coax lengths of 18' help to lessen the problem vs. exacerbate it. For this reason, we recommend 18' coax for mobile installs, as it provides a bit of performance cushion in case the antenna isn't working at 100%.
That being said, using a 9' coax isn't a problem. Just understand that 9' lengths will provide less "grace" in the event of SWR issues / a non-ideal mounting location, so you'll want to take extra care to install your equipment properly and ensure a properly tuned antenna.
Coax in lengths of 25' increments are commonly used in permanent / base installs without issue.
Always have everything needed to reinstall my radio every time I replace my pickup. They are able to answer all my questions and willing to help with installation instructions. Would never consider purchasing my CB equipment any place else
RCR carries exactly what I needed for an antenna instal on my F150. I don't like the aesthetic of the fender mount on pickups and a roof magnet mount puts the tip just too high for overpasses in my region. The Firestick Side Mount (along with a homemade mounting bracket to account for the non-vertical surface on the rear pillar of the cab) worked out perfectly. Very pleased with ordering process, communication and shipping....best part of the entire experience were the shipping/order status emails I received. Whoever is responsible for this needs recognition and a raise for their creativity with these email updates. Made me feel very comfortable with my experience with RCR and if I ever have to call for assistance I'm certain I'll reach a human that actually answers the phone, speaks english and helps with whatever issue I may have. Won't deal with any other company for this reason alone. Hats off RCR, you're doing it right!!! God Bless the USA!!!!!!
We are thrilled to hear that you had a great experience with our product and our team at RCR. We are proud to be an American company and appreciate your business.
I placed two orders a few days apart. The second order arrived fast via UPS. The tracking of the first order showed that it was picked up by USPS, but no updates after that (NOT the fault of Right Channel Radios). After almost two weeks of not receiving a new update, I contacted Right Channel and asked them to look into it. They immediately responded and apologized informing me that the package had been lost (again, not their fault) and processed a refund right away. I was very satisfied how they handled the situation. I would definitely order from them again.
We always strive to provide fast and efficient assistance to our customers, and we are glad to hear that we were able to resolve the issue with your first order. Thanks for choosing us!
I’m very pleased with how my order was shipped. Item came as described in perfect condition.
I am pleased with the service . You can count on Right Channel for excellent service .
We appreciate your support and hope to assist you again in the future. Thank you for choosing Right Channel Radios!
