No-Ground Plane Firestik CB Antenna Mounting Kit: These rooftop NGP mounting kits are designed for mounting on a flat horizontal surface. They're the ideal choice for motorhome roofs, the deck of a boat, the roof of a pick-up camper or cap, the trunk deck of a Corvette, or the roof of a fiberglass or aluminum 18-wheeler tractor. The installed height above roofline, including the spring and CB antenna, is just less than 29 inches (737mm). ANTENNA: The CB antennas used in these kits utilize the same 5/8 wave design as the patented Firestik FS tunable tip antennas. The antenna's frequency is altered in order to maintain a desirable center band position when used with the tuned coaxial feedline. Accordingly, these antennas may only be used with the Firestik NGP cable. The core material is a 3/8-inch (0.375" or 10mm) diameter reinforced plastic (fiberglass). The antenna in these kits has our patented "no tools required" tunable tip for fast and easy SWR adjustments. The rated wattage for these kits is 100 watts.
COAXIAL FEEDLINE: The kit's 17' (5.2 M) coaxial cable is of the highest quality. The NGP cable assembly that comes with this kit utilizes a custom-manufactured coaxial cable available only through Firestik. Unable to find the performance characteristics in any of the commercially available coaxial cable, Firestik designed its own. This NGP cable can only be directly attached to Firestik NGP antennas. If a longer cable length is required, the user may add standard RG-58 A/U cable between the radio and NGP cable, preferably in lengths that are multiples of nine feet. Because it is a tuned circuit, the length cannot be reduced without causing non-repairable damage. Should the cable become damaged, order replacement cable model K-8NGP.
MOUNT, SPRING AND HARDWARE: To complement the quality of the antenna and feedline, the exposed outer mounting disk is made of stainless steel and includes a rubber sealing gasket. A stainless steel spring with machined brass ends acts as the coupling between the antenna and the feedline.

Finally Cleared a Long-Standing Problem

The original antenna/cable/mount system that came with the motorcycle CB/Audio system (installed on a trike) was a ground plane system that caused me mucho problemos. The problems were intermittant with changing characteristics that had me troubleshooting everything. I finally got around to the antenna and found SWR's well into the red zone. Couldn't tune it down to reasonable specs. Switched over to the no-ground plane antenna package. Now the SWR's are less than 2.0 on the high and low end and a hair above 1.0 in the middle. Waiting to do a field test but I expect the problems are now a thing of the past. (Posted on July 6, 2012)Overall Rating

While seeking a CB antenna that would work on a fiberglass motorhome, I selected the 2' roof top mount indicated above. I ordered this from Right Channel Radio and was very pleased with the confirmation, tracking info, and the fast delivery. The unit works as promised, just be sure to not coil your extra coax, as this will eliminate your needed ground plane. My mistake was ordering a 2' antenna when the 1' antenna would have provided the needed clearance on top of the motorhome. I would recommend this type of antenna for use on boats, RVs, & Corvettes due to the fiberglass construction of each and no visible ground plane. When it comes to CB radios and supplies I will check first with Right Channel Radio before making any purchases.Overall Rating
