Firestik Antenna Mounting Kit: The IBA-5 was primarily designed for use inside a building or structure. The main user of this product would be a CB customer who lives in an apartment or association area that restricts the use of outdoor antennas. Other uses may include single-family residences, offices and job sites. The IBA-5 can also be useful to hunters and campers (on the ground or roof of your RV) to establish a temporary communications center. However, this antenna is not meant to be a replacement for an outdoor base station antenna. If you're allowed to set up an outdoor base station antenna in your area, you will probably benefit from doing so. In most cases, the IBA-5 will not out-perform an externally mounted antenna, so if you seek maximum performance and are allowed to use an external antenna, we recommend that you do so.

The complete assembly stands just over 5' (1.5m) tall. Assembly of the kit is fast and easy. Each kit includes a bare-hands tunable tip antenna (rated at 1,000 watts), a partially pre-assembled base hub assembly, four 30" (76cm) radials, and 18' (5.5m) of RG-58A/U Fire-Flex coax cable. We also include a couple of extra tuning screws that can be used in situations where SWR indicates insufficient ground plane. Complete assembly instructions are included.

  • Easily set up an indoor antenna
  • Includes base, antenna and cable
  • Screw-on coax connection
  • Five-year antenna warranty; one-year component warranty

Not to shabby.

I just recently purchased this antenna. It was a breeze to set the SWR around 1.3:1 on Ch. 40 and 1.5:1 on Ch. 1 with a decent DK. Running this as a back-up for my dipole antenna, I can't see 1kw running through it but easy 200 to 400 watts. I got good reports from locals all over 15+ air miles away with lots or hilly terrain. Also made some DX contacts. I do recommend this antenna although it is no where near the performance of a TRUE 5/8 wave antenna. - from Pittsburgh, PA (Posted on February 13, 2013)

Terrific portable base station antenna

This is a well-designed and manufactured antenna. I gave this to my boy to use on the patio. I tuned it for him on his radio. It really gets out with only 4 watts. Make sure you use a top quality SWR meter and know how to read it or have someone who does tune the antenna. Great field day antenna, would highly recommend to anyone. Inexpensive and does a great job. (Posted on August 23, 2012)

Weak transmit and receive

Review by Frank

Ordered this antenna from this website. Great service here. Installed in the attic above the garage. Can't receive or transmit. Weak signal going and coming. I've read you need to install sheet metal plates underneath it if installed in an attic. I will not spend anymore money on this piece of junk. My radio is brand new (1week old) and has been peaked and tuned so i know that's not the problem. SWRs were high and i brought it down to 1.5 with no problem. I ordered this because of the reviews that said it was great. What a crock. (Written 1/27/2012) (Posted on February 22, 2012)
