For serious radio skip talkers

I gotta tell you that ball and spring combo with my 102 inch whip look serious and it performs seriously when I put the ball mount on. My SWR also went down.

Ball Mount with Whip Antenna

Overall, I would say that this is a very good mount, and really the only one I would want to use with an 8-foot whip antenna. It appears rugged enough to support such a large antenna.

I take away one point for the following:
1) The machine screws which come with the mount are wholly inadequate. The head size is so small that I would expect it to pull through the plastic, if given an opportunity. The included heavy metal plate is threaded for 1/4 inch, 20 TPI bolts, which I found and used.
2) The orientation of the ball attachment to the plastic has fixed angle positions, but there is quite a bit of play in any position. With eight feet of antenna, the motion is obvious as well as the deviation from position. Overtightening the nut to lock position would just break the plastic. I had to shim the contacts inside the ball attachment to make it rigid.

Once properly installed, it appears a robust mount, even with the heavy pot-belly spring and a 102۝ whip.

I messed up the hole alignment but....

a great product. The instructions that Right Channel provides is great and should be followed to the letter. I misaligned the three holes slightly and had to re-drill two of the holes. However, the ball mount is well manufactured and durable. Highly recommended.
