As a Jeep TJ owner, I often wheel with other Jeep enthusiasts. The need for reliable "Jeep to Jeep" communication became a paramount issue recently. After some research and forum walking, it became apparent that many other wheelers use the venerable CB radio to communicate with other trail riders. And the equipment source that kept showing up in threads was Right Channel. Well, I visited their site and ended up placing and
order for a Uniden Bearcat PC-78 Elite, a 4' Firestik antenna and FireRing FME coax.

I had been looking at a Cobra 75 WX St, but opted instead to go "old school" and get a full featured model. The Uniden PC-78 turned out to be just about infinitely adjustable. Sure, it has a bigger form factor, but mounted to the roof of my Jeep, I had plenty of room to work with. The Firestik antenna was the FS variety, and could be tuned at the end. This was very handy, and the only way to go in my opinion. And the FireRing coax just mad interfacing the two so much easier. A FireRing Compatible CB Antenna Stud rounded out the system.

Delivery was very fast, but while I waited I brushed up on what I thought I needed to know about installs, etc., on their web CB Radio Resources. I had no idea about tuning CB systems, but had it all in the noggin when the time came to put it in. Glad I did, because it all went perfect, and the tuning was spot on. Now I use the system routinely to talk with fellow Jeepers on-trail. In fact, my setup bests many other "tossed-in" jobs. Now I find myself referring others to Right Channel for how-to info. The only down side to my outfit is I can barely hear distant fellow Jeepers, but they can sure hear me! Thanks!

I've had this radio for 3 years. I use it for work and travel and have one in my personal truck as well as in my work truck and they perform flawlessly especially when I'm adding linear amps to them, they always work. The antenna warning light is really a contributing asset in regards to let me know when I'm not transmitting. This is really valuable in an emergency situation. I will continue to purchase this radio for all my and my family's vehicles.

I cannot be more pleased with my purchase of the Uniden PC78 Elite in conjunction with the Wilson 5000 antenna. It lives up to all of my expectations. The PC78 is a full featured radio. The only thing this radio lacks is the talk back mode. I loved the full illumination panel and this is the first radio I have owned with weather capability. This feature I find very useful. I use this combination in my truck at work. It is probably on 8-10 hours a day and just like the product review video said it is Uniden's top of the line and I am very pleased with it. Also the Wilson 5000 is a fantastic antenna which I am going to purchase for my personal car's radios. I have no problem transmitting and receiving (on a good day 5-14 miles). I rate the Uniden PC78 and the Wilson 5000 a 5 out of 5. I have yet to see better with a standard CB radio.
