First of all, I would like to thank the staff at Right Channel Radios for their 5 star service, and continued interest in my two way radio experience. I ordered a Wilson 1000 magnetic mount antenna from RCR's. It arrived without delay, and the packaging was perfect for the almost 5' antenna. After the installation of a Cobra radio, that I had in my stack of radios, I was experiencing some RF problems that were solved by their experienced staff.

The Wilson 1000 Magnetic mount antenna works better than advertised. It has a very strong magnet that holds securely to any flat metal surface.
It makes any little radio sound good, and you won't be an alligator station either. Installed on a 2008 Ford F250 4X4 crew cab.

I bought the Wilson 1000 magnet mount after my puck mount went bad! Let me tell you this, it has an easy to tune whip with a powerful magnet. I have been running this Wilson for four days now and shoot skip daily and it receives and transmits great! I was driving last night (July 4th,2009) and was on a country street when a car forced me to go under a tree branch that was low. It hit my whip and I thought it had damaged or knocked off the antenna. When I stopped to check it, it was in the same place I put it with no damage at all! Very impressive, very sturdy and still out performing my Stargun, K40 Heli-Coil and Monkey made I had on the puck mount! Bravo Zulu (Navy term for well done!)

I recommend this Wilson 1000 without any delay! A must for those who have limited room to cut or drill mounts in their vehicles.

The antenna is put together very well and the magnetic base is easily strong enough to hold the antenna to any vehicle with a metal body. The thing I love about these antennas is that they are so easy to set up. All you need to do is slap the antenna on the roof of your car, route the coax to the radio and plug it in, and then do some minor tuning to achieve a good SWR. In most cases you can be up and running with a SWR of 1.2 or so within about 10 minutes.

As far as performance, these antennas aren’t your average magnet mount. They really have excellent gain and great transmit properties. Other stations often will tell me that my Wilson 1000 paired with a President HR2510 radio makes me sound like I’m talking on a strong base station. The antenna has allowed me to make many DX contacts and talking local is never a problem.

Either of these antennas (Wilson 1000 or 5000) are a solid choice if a solid mount antenna is not going to work for you. In any case the Wilson 1000 and Wilson 5000 antennas offer excellent performance in a small and easy to mount package. I’ve always been able to get a SWR under 1.5 with either antenna and never had any problems with failure or defects.
