The DX 979 is Galaxy's smallest SSB-capable radio and the only SSB model with a backlit display. Galaxy's StarLite backlit faceplate illuminates all lettering, making fumbling in the dark for the right knob a thing of the past. In addition to the long-range performance SSB makes possible, the Galaxy DX 979 packs a full feature set, including variable output power, RF gain, PA, high-SWR alert, mic gain, clarifier control (delta tune), talk back and automatic SWR calibration for simpler antenna tuning. The oversize, easy-to-read illuminated meter measures modulation, power and SWR. An external frequency counter can be easily added using the built-in port. I love this Galaxy DX959 radio as well as the the whole DX series from Galaxy; they are some of the best radios on the market. I own a 2547 base, 959 mobile and now a 979 mobile. No doubt they are all basically the same boards, functions and quality! But they all do have their own special qualities and functions along with features.

Galaxy radios are some of the best sounding radios going today especially for their price. I will agree there are better radios on the market with even more features but if you consider the price compared to the features and just plain old great sound you get from these radios, I would say they belong on the top shelf. Every user will have their own opinion and these opinions are just mine. (Posted on May 27, 2013)

This radio is a great buy. It has loud audio and tons of features. The StarLite faceplate is really bright but can be adjusted to the perfect setting for night driving. All of the switches function very well and the radio has a classy look. I would recommend this radio to anyone that wants a 5 star quality radio with SSB channels along with the ability to add easy modifications for a reasonable price. (Posted on December 29, 2012)

My son purchased a model 979 Galaxy CB radio from Right Channel Radios over a year ago and I liked it so much I had him order one for me this year. I like the looks of the radio and it performs well and is clear using a one hundred two inch SS whip antenna. I use it for recreation purposes and it exceeds all my expectations. I would rate it a five as it is the best that I have used. So far I would recommend it to any who needed a good CB. It was shipped promptly and received it in good condition and in a timely manner.

I purchased the Galaxy 979 from Right Channel Radios and I've had it for about 2 weeks now. I must say that it is by far the best mobile CB I've ever owned.I paid for the standard peak and tune, and I'm glad I did. It's well worth the money. I've made several contacts and all have been good. I made a contact that was 9 miles out and I was told I was loud and clear, and I'm using a standard 39 1/2 inch magnet mount antenna, and with the peak and tune on a dead key, my power output is between 8 and 10 watts out. Also, it has a very nice bright blue led display and it's adjustable. The SWR power meter is very nice as well since it's bigger and easier to read than any other CB I've had. I received my radio in about 5 days which was pretty quick delivery. I must say I will order from RCR again in the future and will recommend to all friends and family. Thanks for the great customer support and service. I look forward to doing business with you soon.
