Great Radio & Service.

Review by Peake D
Overall Rating
I recently purchased a 18 WX ST II Cobra and a Firestik antenna kit with all the installation stuff from Right Channel Radios. I use the radio mainly for four wheeling trips. The radio fits well in my Jeep Wrangler and was highly recommended by a friend who has been four wheeling for years and has been a big help to me, a beginner. He knows stuff. I am very satisfied with the radio and the Firestik antenna kit. The folks at Right Channel Radios had good advice and did exactly what they said they would do. I am happy and have no complaints or negatives to report, none at all.

Great for off-roading!

Review by Clinton B.
Overall Rating
I purchased this CB radio to use in my Jeep for recreational off-road purposes. The club I was joining required that all members have functional CB radios in their Jeeps. The front firing speaker makes mounting options endless and the weather feature is great out on the trails to keep and eye on things if need be. I chose to mount my radio on top of the dash above the factory radio (small pocket area). For it's size, features, and easy installation you cannot beat this radio. I found this radio available on-line from other vendors for a slightly lower cost. However, I purchased mine from RightChannelRadios because you simply cannot be their customer service. Plus, their price was still really great!! Tack on their support for tech info and install and you've got a great deal. I've owned the radio now for several weeks and must say I'm very please with it's performance. However, I will agree with the other reviewer that it's hard to read the display in "any" sunlight. I have the Cobra 18WXST installed in my tow rig and it is much easier to read. For me it's not a big deal since I set the needed channel and never touch it again. As a fix, I believe you could place a small piece of window film (tint) over the display to help drown out some of the glare. I would definitely recommend this radio as a recreational CB unit.

Weather channels work great!

Review by Adam A.
Overall Rating
The product is compact and has many features that the big radios have. With the built in weather radio I am always prepared when weather turns for the worst. I use the radio in my Ford Ranger to monitor road conditions as well as communicate with others. One thing that I didn't like was that the power cord is not detachable from the unit which doesn't allow me to hard wire it into my truck since I take it from one vehicle to another. The digital display is hard to read in direct sunlight, but at night you can still operate that CB with out extra light. I would have to rate the radio a 4 out of 5 it has a lot of features but it is hard to read the display during the daylight hours.

Good Radio - Display is hard to read in direct sunlight.

Modern look to compliment your audio equipment in you newer vehicle, has great functionality with weather/signal tracker/emergency/ch9/dual watch selection gives you multiple ways to run your radio. Not just a standard radio! Single DIN sized allows you to take advantage of that extra space some vehicles have below their car stereos along with a front firing speaker gives you multiple mounting options. Would have given it 5 stars but it did not have a PA option and the standard mic is hollow feeling. I recommend getting the Cobra Power Mic for enhanced performance. I also purchased a Wilson Lil Wil mag mount antenna which was tuned at 1.2 to 1 SWR right out of the box. Display is a little difficult to read in direct sunlight so keep that in mind when mounting this radio. Overall, great little radio reasonably priced with added functionality.

Good Radio, Good Price, A Few Shortcomings

Review by Rick
Overall Rating
I replaced an old CB with this one in my Jeep Cherokee for the weather radio feature. I have a 4' Firestick on a roof mount so I get very good range and reception. After a trip to Utah I can report that this was a welcome addition and, thanks to other reviews, performed as expected both on and off road.

Two things to be aware of with this unit are those that other reviewers pointed out: The display is impossible to read in the daytime, even though I have it mounted under the dash, and the volume needs to be turned way up to hear CB channels.

The other issue I have (maybe this is due to my set up but I didn't have the problem with my old radio and have an SWR reading below 1.5 on all channels with this one) is that I receive an unacceptable amount of static when passing under over head lines and have to turn the squelch all the way up to eliminate it. This is not a problem off road or on the highway but it makes communication very difficult in town.

I rated the radio at 4-Stars because of the many features for the price and that it works well for me. However, if you are someone that uses a CB in the city, needs to read the display often or has a lot of road nose in your vehicle you should be very aware of this unit’s shortcoming.

Good Recreational Radio

Review by Zach
Overall Rating
I put this radio in my beater Honda at the end of February 2011. Installed with a 3' Firestik and the Firestik molded mount and coax kit, tuned to about 1.3 SWR if I recall correctly.

The speaker isn't very loud when on the CB, but plenty loud enough for the weatherbands. The SoundTracker feature doesn't do much in my opinion, and I haven't used the Dual Watch as it says on 19. The scan will stop on any channel it picks up static, so you have to turn the squelch up a little before you scan.

Despite the negatives I've mentioned, its not a bad little radio for a non-commercial driver or occasional user. I get about 4 miles out of it on a clear day, which is pretty good in my area. I would have rated it four stars if the speaker was louder for the CB, but gave it three as I found the need to add an external speaker.
