I bought this to use with my peaked/tuned Cobra 29 NW Classic ltd. I got the 4 foot. SWR is below 2 on every channel. Not sure about my range as none of my friends have very good set ups on their CBs. They all have cheap walmart cbs and antennas, and their equipment has neither been peaked nor tuned. I am using a heavy duty spring with the antenna. I recommend that too, especially if you are using a taller antenna. It's good for low tree branches on the trail or drive thru for fast food. Great inexpensive kit with a very tough compact radio.

I have kept the small Uniden Radios on hand for around 20 years; I used them as back up units for the big truck and used them on a car for vacation. I have ran 6 or 8 of these Silver Loads and have a few extras on hand now. One of the best! I plan to use the hood kit as a permanent antenna mount on a Ford pickup. It's made of solid! Up to 5 miles on Chevy Colorado Pickup

Review by Bruce
Overall Rating
I've had this on my truck for about three weeks. It's on the driver side fender of a Chevy Colorado pickup. I got the 3 foot stick and it extends quite a ways above the cab. Clears my garage door by about 1/2 inch. The mount is realy handy and adjustable. I had to put a slight bend toward the lower end to cleanly clear the hood, then put a corresponding bend the other way higher to make the antenna straight. The pivoting feature is great for forward/backward lean adjusting. Negative with this kit is that the wire is partially pinched between the fender and the metal assembly. Wish I had test fitted it better before I drilled all the holes. A couple washers to space the base up would help. Antenna builds up ice in freezing fog and oscillates violently. Only happened once, but was bad enough I had to stop twice to break the ice off. Ended up with 1.7 SWR on channel 1 and 40 and 1.05 on channel 19 where I normally have it. Best known distance is 5 miles so far. (Written 3/23/2011) (Posted on February 16, 2012)
