Best CB Antenna I have owned!

Review by Mike
Overall Rating
I have been into cb since the early 1960s. 6 transistor 300 milliwatts [to me that was power], walkie talkies connected to wire scavenged from old toasters, irons, tv's ect taped together long enough to reach the chimney on top of a 2 story apartment building. There I had aluminum tubing scavenged from older cb operators. Antennas that were casualties from summer storms taken to my workshop basement. My father was a plumber - I used his tools to cut, connect w/ screws and transform scrap into a 25 foot monster antenna. From there to the 1970's I was cb mobile crazy all kinds of antennas never the small 2-3 foot tall frail, anorexic looking junk some cb operators would swear by! My choice was always the tallest, the most well made mobile antennas that I could find. I still have a lot of the old antennas in my archive. I recently searched the internet for the best looking & the most well made antenna that i have ever seen. On a recent trip down south from Illinois I passed a truck and saw this kind of antenna. I made contact with the trucker he told me it was a monkey made. From that point my search was over. I found & ordered it & when I got it I pulled it from the box - I said YES NOW THAT IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! The workmanship is unbelievably heavy, extremely well made good looking the best antenna I have seen or used. Low swr because of the design & because of its composition & what it is made of - highly conductive metal. And in addition to being a cb veteran cb is and always will be my roots this is where i spend most of my radio time. I am also a licensed ham radio operator that designs antennas mobile & base. Believe me I know antennas and this is the best I have ever owned.

Very happy with this antenna

Monkey made 9 antenna...

Overall very happy with this antenna. The receive is excellent. The welds and construction are awesome!! Only down side for me, is that the whip is pretty heavy. The aluminum shaft is fairly light by itself but the whip is non tapered and is .200" thick all the way up, which puts a lot of torque on the mounting point/bracket. I'm going to make up my own bracket out of 1/4" thick steel, to replace the thinner one I'm using on my bed rail now.

Even with the coil sitting about 5-6 inches behind my cab along the bed rail, the SWR's are flat on 1 through 40. I was surprised and that was with no trimming at all. On a mountain top at night, I was just able to talk to a guy about 30-35 miles away, at 15 watts AM. I could hear him clear as a bell. He had trouble hearing me I guess because I wasn't using a power mic and because my signal is somewhat directional due to wear I mounted it, which would have sent the signal more in the opposite direction he was. On the roof this thing would get out a lot better IMO but I'm not drilling a hole in the roof for a little more get out ability.

I would probably buy one of these again, as it works as good, maybe even better on receive than a 102" mounted on the roof, which I had on a older truck way back when.

I give it a 4.5 but I rounded it up to 5 stars. If it had an option for a lighter tapered whip, I would give it a 5+ rating. I have no doubt this thing could handle lots of watts, like they say.

Takes a beating and keeps on going

Review by Carl
Overall Rating
I had mine on my tractor for a year and a half and I tell ya, this antenna takes a beating! Overall it stands 14 ft, 3 inches at the tip on the rig so it catches a lot of bridges, and has yet to offset my SWRs or even come close to being bent. Over all I love this antenna and i think I'm going to purchase a couple more for my other trucks. (Written 2/6/2012) (Posted on February 21, 2012)

Great antenna!

This is a heavy duty antenna! Heavy being the key word here. You will need a heavy duty mount to hold this antenna down! I used the Firestik DM4A Dome Mount on my truck for this install. I recommend a good spring also. The tuning part started off bad at first, but as it came around it tuned up at 1:1. Great gain on RX and TX. I would say its the best mobile antenna I have seen in over 20 years. ------ 73's (Posted on April 5, 2012)

Fantastic Antenna!

Review by Jerry G.

I actually made this purchase as a gift to my son who drives a semi, for his CB. He LOVES IT! The reception is so much more clear, he says and even though, it is a tad on the high side and hits the occasional bridge, he says it holds up extremely well!!! Ye loves it! I highly recommend a product that stands up to this, takes a licking and keeps on ticking!!! :) (Posted on June 27, 2012)

It was the best antenna I had used...

Review by Ken

I used mine for about a year. It was the best antenna I had used. I had a hard time getting the right one for my connex. After about a year I was driving down the highway and it passed me. It had broken off at the base. But while I had it, I was very pleased.
