If not for the large size, the 102 inch whip would be the choice of every CB'er. All coil type antennas are made so as to shorten the actual length of the device that must be put on a vehicle to receive and transmit radio waves. None of them will outperform the basic 102 inch whip for distance and hearing. But, very few people want one of these monsters attached to their vehicle as it hits overhanging limbs, bangs through the parking garage, sways wildly in the wind while driving, and is somewhat unsightly in the eyes of the general onlooker. If you try to mount this antenna low, to say a bumper, then you greatly compromise its efficiency and you would be much better off with a coil type antenna. So therefore, the best choice in RF design is not the best in general when you consider looks. If you don't care about looks, then mount this in the middle of your roof with a stainless steel spring and be heard. These antennas work and look great on a large pickup truck with a headache rack behind the cab. They can be mounted high and the size of the truck make the antenna looks acceptable.
